Black Dynamite and Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia!

I saw Black Dynamite back when it came out in theatres but didn't actually own a copy. Until now!

And my santa had messaged me, asking about different kinds of movies, and something that came up was that I wouldn't mind seeing more Sam Peckinpah movies, hence Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia.

Oh who am I kidding? I'm not a good critic! :/ But I digress.

My santa had sent me a few questions trying to get a feel for what movies I already have and what my preferences are. One of the questions was whether I liked Tarantino or Peckinpah, and tbh, I can't even remember the last time I had a chance to see a Peckinpah movie. I saw Pulp Fiction when it came out in theatres and have been watching Tarantino movies since, but it's nice to go back and watch something from Peckinpah. (And from what I understand, this is actually Peckinpah's most personal film.)

So, El Jefe offers two hitmen a cool million to bring him the head of Alfredo Garcia, hence the title. They meet Bennie (Warren Oates) along the way and offer him a cut to bring them the head of Alfredo Garcia. But here's the thing: Alfredo Garcia's already dead and buried. Bennie winds up going to dig up Garcia, bumps into two bikers along the way (one of whom is played by Kris Kristofferson!), and gets Garcia's head so he can collect the money. Guns are pulled; bullets fly. Violence ensues. (Hey, this is Peckinpah.)

And it just occurred to me that I could've titled this post "I was brought the head of Alfredo Garcia." But anyway, I watched the movie hoping t get a bang out of it. I had a blast. https://i.imgur.com/h0qthtc.jpg

As I type this, I'm putting the DVD back on so I can queue it up with the commentary.

PPS- And thanks again, santa! I plan on getting to Black Dynamite soon. I saw it in theatres when it first came out but haven't seen it in a while!
