2022 Broken Forum Secret Santa
About
Seeing the lack of a Broken Forum Secret Santa in 2021, I figure there ought to be one in 2022.
I'm pretty fond of the Giving.Gifts platform (as a heavy premium user over the past year). There is no maximum for this exchange through of course as per past Secret Santa Exchanges on Broken Forum, I highly doubt anyone has received a car. Please spend at least the equivalent of US$25 (if handmaking a gift ensure that the outcome would be valued at at least that much if it were hypothetically sold in a store) before shipping and have your gift aimed to arrive before opening day of December 16.
Signup deadling is October 31st, but the timezone will be reflected in Giving.Gifts and matching should happen via the matching engine around that time. If on the off chance that it doesn't, I'll certainly communicate with support on Giving.Gifts to ensure that any glitches get resolved.
If you are going to order something from a webstore and have it delivered to your Santee then consider doing it from a webstore in your Santee's country or region to reduce shipping and customs issues. Note that your Amazon login, saved cards, etc will work on any Amazon store - so for example if you are in the US and your Santee is in Germany, you can order from Amazon.de using your regular Amazon.com account. In many cases, those stores are also available in English.
A handy tip: At the time of year when your gift should be arriving at your Santee's depressing hovel, it's very likely that they will be also expecting a bunch of parcels that they ordered themselves from the usual set of major online vendors. If you are sending your Santee a gift from Amazon or similar, make it easy for your Santee to identify your parcel as one that they should not open yet by adding something like BFSS or Broken Forum to the address line.
Gifts ought to suit a recipient's preferences -- feel free to figure out their interests through their responses to questions on Giving.Gifts or through stuff they've mentioned/discussed on Broken Forum (or through any wishlist links they have helpfully provided). You can also likely use the Giving.Gifts messaging system to communicate with your recipient/gifter. You should open your gifts and post pictures directly to the Broken Forum thread once opening day rolls around, though you could also post a link to a post on Giving.Gifts if you're having trouble uploading your photos to your Broken Forum post. Giving Gifts will require you to post at least something in the form of a thank you post when you receive your gifts but I'm not requiring it to include photos. Your main thank you should be on the Broken Forum thread.
General Rule: Don't give anything inappropriate (not sure what this means? Ask! Giving.Gifts has a way to message your recipient anonymously if needed, but I can also try to help). Don't sign up if you're not going to follow through. And finally, don't be an ass. Don't share your Santee's personal information with anyone else or otherwise use it inappropriately. Please do not create a separate opening thread - just start the opening posts here. Keeps it all in one place, y'know?
You can choose to sign up as a rematch Santa via Giving.Gifts on the off chance that someone doesn't receive a gift.
Final (somewhat optional) requirement: please also post on the Broken Forum thread when you've signed up and as a reminder please (definitely) post when you've opened your gift(s) during the week starting December 16.
Feel free to message with additional questions on Broken Forum.
