The postie just rang, and I ran down to pick up a super heavy parcel from my Santa.
Oh my god, I feel like I won Givin'gifts! My santa is from Groningen in the North of the Netherlands, and she sent me lots of local delicacies. Lets start with a personal recipe for Groningen mustard soup. I once had a bowl of soup in a restaurant up there, and it was absolutely delicious! In order to cook this soup Santa also provided the lovely, oh so lovely coarse and spicy local mustard, cured sausage, and a wine from Frisia! I know there was wine production in the Netherlands but never tried it, thus is is fantastic. And on the mustard: I got so disillusioned on German mustard just now that I looked around for something better, but no luck. This is wow!
There's also a big glass of local farm applesirop that I really have to try tomorrow morning, a huge loaf of nut cake, also from a local bakery (nom!) and a bag of liquorice depicting the church tower of Groningen town. And a pack of salmiac balls in the shape of rabbit droppings :D
And to top it all off, there's a tourist guide for Groningen! I visited the province and Drenthe last winter (yay, I stood on ice!) but to my own shame I have to admit that I only looked at geological and archaeological monuments and didn't visit any towns or villages. I really need to change that, and possibly bring my bike along as I so miss cycling over the flat, oven landscape of the Netherlands.
Thanks a lot dear Santa. This is such a lovely and thoughtful gift!
edit: what the heck! I'm eating a lovely slice of nut cake with a good serving of butter right now! 🥰
