in the process of setting up https://penpal.network/dashboard/moss?v=pens pens are mostly complete, inks are far from complete

How long have you been using fountain pens?

  • 3 years or so that this point thanks to a highly successful penabling by my bestie.

What do you use your fountain pens for?

  • Art, writing in my hobonichi weeks, taking notes, writing snail mail
  • I also have an ongoing art project where I visualize long COVID symptoms and use my pens for that: illmarks.com

What are you hoping to get out of this exchange?

  • I’d love a new pen, even a very affordable or used one! But I’m also open to anything my answers inspire!

What are some of your other interests (if not already described in givin.gifts profile)?

  • in profile!

Are you interested in receiving pen(s)? If so, preferred nib, material, feedback, weight, etc.?

  • I love super smooth, wet writers. Not a fan of feedback, toothiness, or scratchiness.
  • all nib sizes are welcome, I use thinner nibs in my hobonichi and thicker nibs in my art.
  • I am relatively new to flex nibs but I like them! Fude nibs and smooth specialty shaped nibs are really neat too!
  • i hold my pens somewhat high so it’s a boon if there’s not a big ledge between grip & body of pen.
  • pens which handle shimmer well are a bonus but not required
  • I am open to all brands but am especially looking to try more Pilot pens

OR What are your favorite pens and what do you like about them?

  • pineider avatar UR deluxe in forest green M - looooove the wet smooth flexy nib, wow! hoping to try a thinner version of their quill nib
  • Franklin cristoph lavender & green XF (gift from friend) and Edison Newark Blue Nebula XF Flex: smoooooth despite thin nibs and pretty colorways with clips
  • benu talisman eidelweiss B - love the smooooth wet nib! I have my eyes on the lily of the incas colorway and the hawks eye colorway. One day I’ll find a used shooting star colorway!
  • Lamy aion 1.9 in green - smooth modern design, pretty color, nib with tons of character
  • sailor fude de mannen 55 degree— the line weight differences and the paintbrush-like body are great.
  • Pilot iro utushi medium dip pen: I use it for swatching inks and I don’t have many Pilot pens but wow their nibs are so smooooooth!

Are you interested in receiving ink(s)? If so, preferred colors, desired characteristics like shading/sheen/shimmer, wet/dry, etc.?

  • I would like more sheening inks, right now I only have Nitrogen and Wearingeul Wayfarer (plus the Sailor Dipton Dark Cave)
  • Wetter the better!
  • Shading is also very welcome, but I have quite a few of those! I can provide a list of the inks I have already if helpful .
  • I prefer unscented, i make art outside a lot and scented inks attract bugs, and also are less good for my MCAS allergies

OR What are your favorite inks and why do you like them?

  • wet wet wet please!
  • cool chromatography is a boon, I use water brushes a lot in my art
  • love shading sheen and shimmer! Any fun properties are welcome!

Are you interested in receiving paper/notebooks? If so, preferred smoothness, paper size, ruling, weight, hardcover/softcover, binding, etc.?

  • blank (unlined) paper in different colors is especially preferred for art, but I’d also use gridded or lined

Are you interested in receiving nibs and/or pen repair supplies? If so, what in particular?

  • interested in nibs that are easy to swap, especially nibs with unique traits

Are you interested in receiving stationery accessories, such as pen cases/rolls, notebook covers, pen-themed stickers/decals, ink swatching cards/stamps, etc.? If so, what in particular?

  • I’d love one of those wax seal melters where you melt the wax in a spoon over a flame and pour instead of using sticks. If including a flame, unscented please as I have auto-immune allergies. The wax seals I have are very large and hard to do with wax seal sticks.
  • open to other stationery goodies too, that’s just the first thing that comes to mind because it means I don’t use wax seals as much as I would like.

If you participated in a previous fountain pen exchange, what was a standout gift that you received, and what made it special?

  • my sailor fude de mannen 55 degree which as mentioned above is one of my favorite pens still. The person researched what artists who like varying line widths like and picked it out. To this day I occasionally swap the nib from it onto my sailor compass pens when I’m traveling and need a clip because it’s such a versatile nib! (They also sent some fun animal cards which I had fun writing to friends on, but the FDM is a gift that keeps on giving.)

How would you describe your personal style or aesthetic? Goth, cottage-core, modern, shabby chic, minimalist…

  • nature witchy, goth, punk, modern, brutalist

Some people like to include some bonus candies or sweets in the packages. Do you have any food restrictions or allergies your Santa should be aware of?

  • no meat or fish please

Please link any "state of the collection" posts or images below for your Santa so they have an idea of your tastes and to avoid repeats. You may post on your Reddit user profile, in a Mastodon post, or on an image host like imgur; you may also link your Fountain Pen Companion page.

I will post and link soon!

Anything you definitely don't want, or already have too many of? (ink colors, pen models, brands to avoid, etc.)

  • please no feedbacky/scratchy nibs
  • please no noodlers
