Shopping for me might be a bit difficult because I have very narrow interests/hobbies, and I tend to prefer fashion related things or things I can 'utilize'. My Amazon list is usually stuffed with lots of sewing related things, as well as Barbie & Cruella collectables I would like to buy myself in the future. I make it very obvious where my interests are but was hoping they didn't just go to Amazon because I was limited. Despite putting 'reading' on my dislikes, I did want to put some sewing and skillset books on my list, but the stuff I wanted or needed wasn't available on there. I even tried to find a fashion textile encyclopedia on Amazon or corsetry advanced sewing techniques books, and gave up because it was hard to find something extensive that suits my higher skill level for information. However, in a bizarre coincidence, I ended up with a fashion textile guide after all! I've been meaning to buy one, which is why I was going to add one to my list if I could. This one is nice and thick, and gives me all the details I need without overloading me with too many distractions like googling does when I'm attempting research. This book will get an insane amount of use for years to come! The second book is a collection of stories from Vogue editors, designers, and collectors of fashion I believe from my first skim through. As a freelance designer who feels fashion should be more collaborative than competitive at higher price points, I like learning about and from other people in the industry and their viewpoints. Now, there's definitely a lot of reading in it and not much for visual consumption, but luckily it's broken up into individual stories/interviews so I can read about one person and then pick it up later to learn about another.
Overall, I am extremely grateful and happy that my gifter applied my interests perfectly to what they wanted to send me. Thank you for a great gift that will help me make many gifts in the future. :)
