How to decide which Pokemon game to get

I am a relatively new Pokemon fan. I got really into the Detective Pikachu movie. Switch is the first Nintendo product I've owned since the NES. So I started with Let's Go Eevee. Then I did Shield and Brilliant Diamond, but I couldn't decide between Scarlet and Violet. My giver has made the choice for me! Thank you!
